J.R. Bexley is a dedicated music teacher known for his calm, thoughtful presence and his expressive flute playing. Raised in a small town in the Pacific Northwest, he found his voice early through the flute, captivated by its range and lyrical tone. He went on to study performance and music education at a state university, developing a strong foundation in both classical technique and modern teaching methods.

Now based in Portland, J.R. teaches flute to students of all levels and piano to beginners, with an emphasis on musicality, patience, and steady progress. His lessons blend structured fundamentals with creative interpretation, encouraging students to develop not just skill, but confidence and personal expression. Whether guiding a young flutist through their first sonata or helping a beginner master basic piano chords, he brings clarity and care to every session.

Outside of teaching, J.R. performs in local chamber groups and community orchestras and occasionally composes short solo works for flute and piano. He believes music should be both challenging and joyful, and his goal is to make every student feel that they’re capable of meaningful, expressive playing—no matter where they start.
