A brief introduction
Julian Hart is a jazz drummer from Manchester, UK, known for fusing jazz with electronic, funk, and Latin grooves. After earning his degree from the Guildhall School of Music, he toured with multiple genre-blending acts across Europe and North America, building a reputation for his creative versatility and rhythmic precision.
Now living in Brooklyn, Julian teaches drums, piano, and guitar to students ranging from beginners to professional musicians. In addition to private lessons, he frequently leads workshops on improvisation and groove development, helping students understand rhythm not just as timing, but as a powerful expressive tool. His teaching blends deep jazz roots with global rhythms and contemporary influences, creating a dynamic, cross-genre learning experience.
Julian also directs a rhythm and groove lab at a music institute in Berlin, where students explore rhythmic language through both traditional jazz charts and modern beat production, often collaborating with rappers and DJs. He writes rhythm theory books and is developing an interactive drumming app designed to teach feel and timing in real-world contexts. Julian’s mantra: “The beat is global—learn the language, then speak it your way.”
